How to use a Fire Hose Reel?

Quick Usage Guide for Fire Hose Reel

Fire Hose Reel is a convenient tool for initial fire fighting, easy to operate and fast in response, suitable for office buildings, residences, shopping malls, gas stations and other places. Core principles: quickly deploy, aim at the root of the fire, spray safely, and control the fire in time.

I. Two Common Types and Application Scenarios

Type Applicable Fire Common Places
Ordinary Water-Type Solid fires such as wood, paper, cloth Office buildings, residences, office buildings
Foam-Type Solid + liquid fires such as gasoline, diesel Gas stations, garages, small oil depots

II. Standard Operation Steps (By Type)

1. Ordinary Water-Type Reel (Most Common)
  1. Preparation: Confirm it's an initial solid fire, open the fire hydrant cabinet door, take out the spray gun, turn the ball valve counterclockwise to start water supply;
  2. Deployment: Hold the spray gun and pull the hose slowly, do not twist or knot it, stand 3-5 meters upwind of the fire;
  3. Spraying: Aim at the root of the fire, press the spray gun switch, first use water column to break through the fire, and switch to water mist to cover the remaining fire when the fire is small;
  4. Reset: After putting out the fire, first close the spray gun, then close the water supply valve, drain the remaining water in the hose, neatly retract the hose, close the cabinet door and report the usage.
2. Foam-Type Reel (Needs to Link with Foam Tank)
  1. Preparation: Confirm it's a liquid fire, start the foam tank linkage system, check that the pipeline has no leakage;
  2. Deployment: Same as water-type reel, stand 5-8 meters upwind to avoid foam rebound;
  3. Spraying: Aim at the edge of the fire, slowly push the fan-shaped foam to the center, do not directly flush the liquid surface (to prevent liquid splashing), spray for another 1-2 minutes after the fire is out to prevent re-ignition;
  4. Reset: First close the foam tank, then close the water supply, flush the hose with clean water for 1-2 minutes, drain the remaining water and retract it, and replenish the foam liquid.

III. Usage Precautions in Different Environments

  • Low temperature (winter <-10℃): Thoroughly drain the remaining water after fire fighting, add thermal insulation cotton to the reel, and use cold-resistant hoses;
  • High temperature/coastal areas: Choose sun-resistant and corrosion-resistant hoses and reels, avoid direct sunlight, and rinse the hose surface after fire fighting;
  • Explosion-proof places (chemical plants, gas stations): Use anti-static hoses, ensure the reel is grounded, and wear anti-static clothing during operation.

IV. Safety Taboos and Daily Maintenance

1. Safety Taboos
  • Do not use water-type reels to put out fires of live electrical equipment (cut off the power first);
  • Do not persist when the fire is large, evacuate immediately and call 119;
  • Do not mix different types of foam liquids for foam-type reels.
2. Daily Maintenance
  • Weekly inspection: Check that the hose and spray gun are not damaged, and the switch is flexible;
  • Monthly test: Turn on the water supply and spray for 1-2 minutes to check that the pressure is normal;
  • Annual maintenance: Replace aging parts and apply anti-rust oil to metal components.
